The Great Commission (Jesus’ final words, as recorded by Matthew)

Whose responsibility is it to share the gospel and with whom & what part are you to play?

Read: Matthew 28:16-20 - But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Mark: With a cross, mark Jesus and all words referring to Him (Him, Me, Son, I).

Reflect: What do you learn from each place you marked Jesus?

Mark: Underline all references to the eleven disciples including they, some, them, you.

Reflect: What was their response when they saw Jesus?

Mark: Now go back & circle the word ALL it is used 4 times, including ‘always’ (literally ‘all the days’)

List: List below what you learn from marking ‘all’:

1. Is it the responsibility of all disciples (followers of Jesus) to go & make new disciples?
2. According to verse 20, what is to be taught?
3. Does this include the command in verse 19?
4. In whose authority are you to make disciples?
5. Is anyone excluded from being a disciple of Jesus?
6. Insight: The word ‘Go’ in vs. 19 is in a verb form that means, ‘as you are going’ or ‘having gone’.

1. When are you to ‘go’ and make disciples?
2. Does this include your leisure, sport & work time or is it only for during ‘pre-arranged’ meeting?
3. What do new disciples need instruction in?
